Using developmental assessment of learning -disabled children investigators have documented a higher prevalence of deficits in various areas of functioning than among children without such learning problems:
- Speech and language difficulties
- Deficits in cognitive and conceptual thought including:
1. Temporal-sequential deficits
2. Directional disorientation
3. Visual-perceptual difficulties
4. Deficits in inter-sensory integration
5. Motor abnormalities and clumsiness
6. Behavioral and emotional problems
7. Evidence of neurologic immaturity
("soft" neurologic signs)
